Well I started following the Raiders in 1983. The then LA Raiders were playing the Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl. The typical school in Northern Mancherster half our year was split between Liverpool fans and United Fans. Yes there were very few City fans, infact we had more Bury fans than City. As the Redskins played in red white and yellow, liverpool colours, all the United fans wanted the Raiders to win so my following of The Raider Nation begain. 25 years later I now live in th US, due to marring an American, Ironiclly with 4 in-laws being redskin fans.

I was at school in Stretford and there were very few of us City fans there as well. Of the guys that had got into the game most supported the Niners, Dolphins or Redskins already. I'd already decided I was a Raiders fan. It was the silver and black, the image and the reputation. It appealed to a teenage boy who was rebelling against everything

I'm an exiled Manc as well, not as far as you. I'm only 100 miles down the M6.

DC isn't what I would call exiled in the States. Now if it were Montana, Wyoming or even Alaska, now that could be construed as exile.

I too am married to an American. All of the wifes family are either Dolphins or Buccaneers fans. Even my daughters are Dolphin fans.

Well at least, come the start of each season I have the advantage of either being left alone to watch the games in peace or if she does decide to join me, she understands the game and tends to be louder and more vociferous than I am.

Wife goes out with her mum on a Sunday (sometimes I have to pick her up though) at about 6pm and doesn't get back till 10pm. Generally leaves me alone, though I'm going to have another go and getting her into the NFL.....now if I buy her a female Raiders top that might work.

Couldn't hurt. Except that it may be the start of a "I've got nothing to go with this" thing, speaking from personal experience.
