Games involving the top 4 are usually pretty insipid to be fair and I'd like to see this happen more often.

Agreed. All 4 of these teams will be going all out to win which should make for a better footballing spectacle.

My mum is form Dumbarto so I tend to look our for their results. Not that they would be challenging for any honours.

Unfortunately for them they are not doing particularly well at the moment. They do have a nice stadium. I was there a couple of weeks ago for a retiremnt party. And, of course the Scotland team train there sometimes.

Bottom 3 if I remember rightly. Do they still play at Bog Head Park?

No they moved to a new place a couple of years back, Strathclyde Homes Stadium. It is situated at the base of the rock upon which sits Dumbarton Castle.

I meant to talk about Everton and Spurs both of whom went out on penalties last night. Bolton are the last, I think, English club in the UEFA Cup.
Rightly everyone will concenrate on the 4 clubs in the quarter- finals of the Champions League, but I fear that it will add to the already overblown hype of the Premier League being the best in the world. What it means is that we have 4 of the richest clubs who can buy who they want to allow them to compete at the top level in Europe. That doesn't mean the rest of the league is much cop though - hence Everton and Spurs going out of the UEFA cup.

Yes, but Everton and Spurs going out on penalties to two good teams from two different countries doesn't mean that they are not much cop. When you look at the games, they were unfortunate not to have won the matches in normal time. You could argue that is because of the poorer quality of the players that they have, that they didn't manage to take their opportunities when presented but that can happen to the all teams.
Though you are correct about the top four having the money to bring in top players, it doesn't necessarily make them the best teams. Chelsea did bring in a great many and paid a lot for them but it still took them time to get them to play as a team. It is not limited to football in the UK, Real, Barca, AC and Inter have all gone through this.

I was in rant mode when I wrote that. Still dont think the Premier League is the best in the world. Yes we do have good teams but the league itself is not competitive.
Mind you thats true enough of most of the leagues in Europe. I know Inter won the league last year which was the first since the late 80's but they are still the third most titled club in Italy.
The English league use to be different, in the 70's early 80's there were a number of teams who realistically could win the league if you think back Derby, Forest, Leeds, Villa, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal all won the league. Ipswich, City, Utd all challenged.
I know Liverpool were the team of that time especially in the 80's but I felt that there was a more level playing field.
Big business, commericalisation and pure greed jhave changed this.
Maybe I'm being nostalgic and things were not as good - in terms of the hooligan element then I know that we are better off.

A good rant now and again is good for the soul. Besides football is a highly emotive subject and people can be very passionate when making their point.
The commercialism, etc. are part of modern day sport across the board. Even within the amateur ranks. This may well be the root cause of the current problems. As far as the hooligan element, they are merely displaced into other areas of society.
