After a great deal of speculation about the feasibility of racing at night onder floodlights, the first Motorbike GP of 2008 at Doha in Qatar was a resounding success. Despite some doubts about the performance abilities of the Bridgestone tyres at colder temperatures in comparison to the Michelins, the Ducati ridden by Casey Stoner started the 2008 season the way he did in 2007, with a resounding win.

Who can stop him?

I like watching Bikes, more so than F1. But haven't a clue who anyone is.

I like both but do prefer the bikes. I have a good friend who used to ride and race quite a bit and he gets a lot of information on the teams and some of the riders. More so with the Superbike teams but he told me a few years back to keep my eye out for a guy called Rossi who, at the time, was racing in the 250cc grand prix. He said that he was one of the most talented riders that he had ever seen. Now, how many World Championships later I think he might have had a point. Another whose vitues he extolled was Dani Pedrosa when he was in his first GP season on a 125cc Honda. So I pay attention whenever he says that someone has a future.

I know the name Rossi and Karl Fogarty from his days in Superbikes.

In my younger days I use to do some freelance radio work for Key 103 in Manchester and use to go to Belle Vue Aces meets. Toured the pits, interviewed a few riders. Saw a few good races and crashes.

Its good fun. I was lucky as I got to into the centre of the track and a had close ups of everything. And going round the pits was interesting as you watched them cobble together a bike or 2.

get as close to the bikes as possible, makes for better atmosphere. Do you have a speedway team where you are?

We have the Glasgow Tigers. Will have to check out their schedule and see if I can make it out there.
