Veteran Jerry Porter is among the receivers who tried out for the Washington Redskins at their minicamp this week, according to a league source.
Porter, a former star with the Oakland Raiders, is a Washington-area native. He has not been productive for several seasons and did not play in 2009 after signing a big contract with Jacksonville in 2008.
Porter has had a checkered career, but the Redskins are looking for offensive weapons. Receiver Marques Hagans, a fifth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2006 and receiver Roydell Williams, a fourth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2005, were also among the veteran receivers participating in the camp trying to land a contract.
Porter's best season came in 2004, when he caught 64 passes for 998 yards and scored nine touchdowns. In 2008, Porter's only season in Jacksonville, he had just 11 catches for 181 yards and one touchdown.
