Found a great UK based fan site dedicated to the German team FC St Pauli, more famous for their fan base than their on pitch showing. Generally their fans are anarachists, punks and anti-fascists ....well at least to the left of the political spectrum. It makes a great change from the commercialisation of the Premier League. I always thought that odd, with such a bizarre collection of fans you would have thought them to be fairly lefty. There's a number that are probably apolitical judging by the political threads on some of the boards. |

I think it's a Bay area thing. You have one side San Fran, which was the capital of hippy culture and lefties. Then you have Oakland which was It's oppersite.

Oakland, from what I understand, is more blue collar and would therefore tend to be more to the left politically.

In the UK yes. In the US no. In fact if read about Obama's last week about small town bitterness. Altought he could of worded it better. It does explain why your blue collar Americans lean more to the right.

On that side of the Bay you also have Berkeley which tends to be fairly radical as far as US politics goes.

Again it's funny in the States more afluant areas move more to the left. Example I'm in Montgomery county maryland. The richest County in the US, major Demacrats. Go to Hagerstown and more to west Maryland, the more blue collar area, big Republican area.
