The following statement was released jointly by the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association on negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement:

NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith and Commissioner Roger Goodell met today in New York to discuss a range of issues related to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. As part of a process to intensify negotiations, they agreed to hold a formal bargaining session with both negotiating teams on Saturday in the Dallas area. They also agreed to a series of meetings over the next few weeks, both formal bargaining sessions and smaller group meetings, in an effort to reach a new agreement by early March.

Is it just me being cynical or does the fact that they are meeting in Dallas on Saturday not smack of a free trip to the Superbowl at the expense of the Players Association for Smith and Co? Goodell will be there anyway so it also means that those persisting in asking why they aren't getting together to thrash out an agreement, will be appeased. Who really thinks that there will be a lot discussed?
