The problem with Norton, Kapersky and these sorts of anti virus software is that they cause unnecesasary strain on memory and such which slows you right down to a crawl unless you have dual core or above with say 3gb ram.

However, you should be able to uninstall this piece of software but not if it is running which may be the problem.  Try going to your task manager ctrl/alt and delete key together and look at the processes.  Identify the software and close the process, then try to remove it.  It may leave a heap of crap in your system afterwards unfortunately but ccleaner or the AVG PC cleanup tool should remove this.

Hope that helps.

@ watchman - I wouldn't call myself an IT specialist at all fella, lol.  I know a thing or two but that is it Smiley

Uninstall the Webroot software:

In Windows XP, click on the Start button and open the Control Panel. Select Add or Remove Programs, and then select the Webroot security product from the list. Click Remove. Restart your computer after the uninstall is complete.

In Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on the Start button and open the Control Panel. You will see either Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features; double-click whichever option you see. Select the Webroot security product from the list and click Uninstall. Restart your computer after the uninstall is complete.

Note: If you receive an error during this step, proceed to Step 2; otherwise, skip to Step 7.

Please note: It is recommended that you perform Steps 3 through 9 after first creating a System Restore Point described in this step. Ensuring that the Windows built-in System Restore feature is enabled and that regular restore points are created can be very valuable in the event that restoring to an earlier time is needed. If you are unable to create a Restore Point or do not wish to, you may skip this step.

 - To create a System Restore Point in Windows XP go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Create a restore point.

 -  In Windows Vista and Windows 7, go to Start > right-click on Computer > choose Properties, select System protection from the left panel and choose Create.

After you have created your System Restore Point, download and save the Webroot CleanWDF.exe firewall driver and legacy Webroot Desktop Firewall Removal/Cleanup tool to your Desktop by clicking here, or by copying and pasting the following URL into your Internet browser's address bar:
http://download.webroot.com/CleanWDF.exe

Note: Running the CleanWDF.exe utility can benefit those who previously installed or were running Webroot Internet Security Essentials/Complete, as well as those who may have had or are still running the legacy Webroot Desktop Firewall software, which should be removed before installing the Webroot 2011 edition.

Double-click on the Webroot CleanWDF.exe utility to run, and click the Clean button to begin the cleanup process. If Webroot firewall drivers are detected, they will be removed and you will receive the dialog box "Webroot Desktop Firewall Removal Completed. You must restart your system. Click Yes to restart now, or No if you plan to restart later." It is recommended you restart now. If you simply get a dialog box that reads "Webroot Desktop Firewall Removal Completed," click the OK button and then click the Close button to exit and proceed to the next step.

Download and Save the Webroot WRUpgradeTool.exe upgrade/cleanup tool to your Desktop by clicking here, or by copying and pasting the following URL into your Internet browser's address bar:

Note: Running the WRUpgradeTool.exe utility can benefit those who had previously installed or attempted to install Webroot's security software, and may still have residual installed files that may be interfering with the current installation attempt.

Double-click on the Webroot Upgrade/Cleanup tool WRUpgradeTool.exe to run, and follow the prompts to start the uninstall process. The cleanup tool is finished when the last line reads "Removal procedures have been completed." At this point you can click the Close button. If prompted by a dialog box that reads "To complete the cleanup process, you must reboot this computer. Click OK to reboot." Restart you computer now by clicking on the OK button.

To install/reinstall the Webroot security software, insert your Webroot product CD or follow the download and installation instructions received through email.

If you still encounter difficulties installing the Webroot security software, re-download and save the Webroot WRUpgradeTool.exe upgrade/cleanup tool to your Desktop by clicking here. Reboot your computer into Windows Safe Mode with Networking and follow Step 6 above. Once the WRUpgradeTool.exe utility has completed, you can either reboot back into Windows Normal mode or attempt to install in Windows Safe Mode with Networking.

Note: Installing the Webroot security software in Windows Safe Mode with Networking can be particularly useful if your system is currently suffering from a malware infection, or if the Windows Installer service is not fully functional.

If launching the Webroot 2011 Edition installer (WRInstall.exe) yields two "InstallAware" boxes and then nothing else happens (the screen to enter the keycode never appears), you may be using an older copy of the installer file.  Erase all copies of the installer which you currently have and download a new copy here: http://sales.webroot.com/downloads/registered/links/WRInstallSetup_1.exe

My Laptop is only 1 and 1/2 years old so it fairly new; but now that I got it out (Webroot) I have now put AVG in as an Anti-Virus; the Free Version.

Webroot has good reviews but once something get corrupted, I don't normally go back to them.

Just something I learn last night; if you have problems with something, go to system restore at an early date and try work thing out in that way.

Cheers Supes! I am running the 2011 version of Webroot essentials which came as part of the package when I bought the laptop and haven't had any problems, so far. The groudwork that you have done may well come in very handy when it comes to the next upgrade.

Webroot is a good anti-virus; it just when it get corrupted it can be very hard uninstall, I have only had Webroot for about 6 months.

I do not use my Laptop much; just wish there was a Anti-Virus that did not take a lot of space up on the computer.
