I'm sorry fella but that really sounded like he was towing the company line.  Maybe I just need to calm down a little bit because my blood is still boiling over that one.  I understand the rationale behind having the next LD etc but if we are leaking holes all over the place then needs must and we should have gone for Dorsey or Ghoulston as Long had already gone.

The thing is Dorsey is a 3 technic DT, so is Tommy Kelly who we signed to a big contract. Ghoulston is a work out warrier. The word on him is that he's a bit reliant on the roids. I am happy with the pick yes we have problems with the line but they can be filled in the next 4 rounds.

but we haven't got a pick for another 3 rounds?  which is why we should have gone for DL immediately.  If there was word that Ghoulston was a bit of a roid freak then he would not have gone so early as people would not risk that high a pick on a risk like that.  Scouting reports, as you know, go a lot further than looking at how many presses he can do but really delves into their personal lives too.  That's why so many players who we thought would go in the first round went in the second instead.

I think the bottom line is for me is that Al and co have always had a passion for the big star and will be blinded by reason when it comes to getting them over anybody else -it is always the Heisman Trophy winner or the Superbowl man of the match sort of thing.

There were so many good stud starting lineman from the off, either one could start and make a difference immediately where it counts that we had a nice pick from them.  Lineman further down the line have normally been busts whereas you could easily take a RB in the 5th and work with him a couple of years to bring him on, especially around the corps of solid backs we have now.

I just think this is typical of Raider drafting in taking a star rather than a need and what is the betting against the Chiefs next year, McFadden gets stuffed by Dorsey time and time again.  As stated before, Ireally think that guy will haunt us next year.

Totally agree. Though it is a matter of no longer having the choice, I am glad that we have him but the cost could be too great. I didn't want him at the expense of the DL. We still don't have the ability to stop the run and we are still light in the pass rush. If we can't stop the other teams getting first downs or scoring we won't be winning many games.

The really depressing thing for me is that the dline is what is going to make our whole defense work, we will have the best secondary and two great young linebackers which without a pass rush or solid line play against the run won't mean squat.

If teams can average  5 yards a carry and the QB has all day in the pocket , Russell and McFadden will be great talented picks picking up splinters in their backsides watching the other team score.

Merriman was know in Maryland as a roid freak how long was he in the NFL before he was busted. So don't give me they cheack this thing . As for Dorsey lets see here's how he run against Dorsey
 11/25/05 @LSU L 19-17  24 57 2.4 13 1
11/24/06 LSU L 31-26  21 182 8.7 80 2
11/23/07 @LSU W 50-48  32 206 6.4 73 3

330 + yards and 6 tds. I am looking forward to the Chiefs games already.
There are plenty of desent line man still in. Dre Moore might fall to us.

According to what I read about Moore, he lacks technique and athletic ability and is inconsistent in his performance. Thses can be overcome with good coaching  and a great deal of effort but there are still question marks.

And there was me hoping Calais would fall into the 4th round  Cry  A dream, I know but my original picks were with McFadden (not that I wanted him but that was the way they would have gone) and to still have a good lineman drop down through bad seasons at college or a bad combine.  Maybe Moore would be it, I do not know but as I stated before McFadden in the 1st was a luxury.

I'm not denying he will be big for us but just questioning a leaky D and also the salary cap will come into play at some point.

The cap will be eased when we start dumping some RB's on to the market.

Don't worry about the salary this years are acounted for. We were in worse cap trouble last year and had the first pick. Rookies don't count as much to the cap in the first year.
Yes we are bad at the run. The pass defence has been solved we have possably the best secondery d in the league. With the signingof wilson we helped the run defence, same way Sauderson helps the indy run defence. Doresy would not of helped he is the same type of interier lineman Tommy Kelly is.
