Just as the Oakland Raiders are starting to play very good football, they've lost starting quarterback Jason Campbell. Kyle Boller came off the bench to preserve Sunday's win by completing 8 of 14 passes for 100 yards, but Terrelle Pryor is so far from being ready that the team has to look outside the organization for an answer. The first two calls I would make would be to David Garrard and Mark Bulger. The next one would be to Denver about Kyle Orton but I'm fairly confident the Broncos aren't interested in helping a division opponent. In a perfect world, the Bengals would have a change of heart about Carson Palmer, but that's probably a dead end. Maybe the Redskins would be interested in discussing Rex Grossman if they thought Jonathan Crompton, who's on their practice squad, was ready to be the backup to John Beck. New England's Bill Belichick has made a few trades with the Raiders before and I would probe the idea of trading for Brian Hoyer, especially if the Patriots think Ryan Mallett is ready to be a No. 2 QB. Remember, Hoyer was the No. 2 long before he was ready to play. The Raiders have a chance to win the division and it might be worth dealing a good draft pick to get a solid alternative to Boller on the roster.

As we do not depend on the passing game. Stick with Boller, who is a desent back up. Possablly bring back Edwards.

Well, Garrard is out of the picture, it seems as he needs surgery on a herniated disc in his back.

Boller it is then, As others have suggested too, it seems very likely Edwards will be back as his back - up to my mind. The reality is if they are looking to replace Boller already - he should not have been the back up to Campbell in the first place.

Everything is just bluster and rumour - it will be Boller until Campbell returns.

Sorry for the double post guys, but something is confusing me re' Palmer.

I have read various articles about the possibility of a trade with the Bengals for this guy. It seems the Bengals are stating that as far as they are concerned he is retired. So my question is - if he is retired, does that not mean we don't have to deal with the Bengals - we could conceivably just sign him off the retired heap? If he is retired, he is not on the Bengals roster surely, or does a team hold his rights for a certain length of time after retirement?

Or - is he still on their roster and being paid and this is just Bengals BS?

 Anyone?

I would think that it play out much like the fiirst Favre retired. He still belonged to Green Bay and they were able to dictate terms of his trade to the Jets.

Be interesting to see what the Bengals do, i dont blame them for playing 'hardball' with Palmer, Palmer seemed to only retire as the Bengals wouldnt trade him, sure he would come back in a second.

Read an article which showed the amount of money the Bengals had paid to Palmer, something like 70 million hes got from them. And then he 'retires' as he wants to move on, hate it when players act like that. Okay you want to move, repay a huge chunk of that bonus you signed when you signed your last contract extension (which he didnt fulfill)

As a QB i like Palmer but i hate the way some players treat their teams.

It really is a petulant display by Palmer. He doesn't get what he wants and storms off to "retirement" instead of zipping up his mansuit and working it out with the organisation. Would we really want someone like that at the Raiders?

Hue would !

Its good at the moment we look like an 'attactive' football club now, we're 4-2, got some great weapons all over, Hue at HC etc

From a new QB point of view Palmer would be great but yeah do the way he acted, what happens if he came to Oakland and then didnt get a new deal he wanted, 'retire' again ?  Its bad.  Specially the amount of money the Brown family gave him in Cincy, talk about ungrateful.  You sign that huge 7 year deal, honour it, players hate it when theyre cut and its the opposite.

Cheers guys. Figured it must be something like that, just wasn't sure (it's difficult to think straight sometimes with these damn tablets) lol Smiley

Palmer may well be a technically better QB than Campbell, but Campbell is a class act - which Palmer clearly isn't.  Hue would probably take him in a heart beat though yeah, It's not going to happen though it would seem.

EDIT: Maybe I spoke too soon! reports now coming out they are close to a deal for Palmer - giving up a first round pick in 2012 and a conditional draft pick. Palmer taking a pay cut too apparently. Deadline is 9pm UK time - so we'll see.

To be fair (And i'm not just saying this now !) I've never heard Palmer moan before, i presume hes fed up with losing, hes got his millions but that means nothing if he doesnt get a chance at a championship (yeah yeah i've changed my tune !).

It 'could' be a good fit, Palmer knows Jackson well and vica versa, IF Palmer clicks in our offense then we're laughing.

Well hell! - we are all allowed to change our tune. Smiley

This could well be the case of a player getting all the flack - word is that the Bengals owner is a complete douche. He certainly wrangled a sweet deal for his team here though.

If he clicks we could well be laughing yeah. Is this the first major sign of a change of philosophy on offense after Al? Palmer has lost some arm strength  apparently, so the long bomb may be gone.

Well despite our speedy WR's we havent thrown many bombs, granted Bey is doing better with out patterns than sprinting for bombs but would be nice to see a mix.

I dont like the fact Palmer 'refused' to play for the Bengals but as we've seen in the past with some players, the second they start winning fans will forget.

Palmer throws for 300 yards and we win games 28-10 then it makes that huge price worth it.  But he better be worth it otherwise the fans will turn on him.  Luckily we havent got a 'fan favourite' at backup QB like we used to have with Tui (or even Hobert).

I'm just personally glad we're not going with Boller but he has a week to get some gametape to show potential new teams if he leaves next year

True, we have not thrown many bombs this year. Then again, even in Al's era it was really more a case of take 2 - 3 long shots per quarter. The bombs away view was largely overplayed by others really.

I've probably reasoned myself around there really, and rendered the original question moot.  Smiley

I cant wait to get Supes reaction as he was Bollers #1 fan !

Good post on nfluk though (well at least one good post) saying Al must be still be running the team from the grave !  Does have 'Al' all over it.  Very surprised at the high high cost, granted Jackson loves Palmer but it doesnt mean he should have gone OTT on the price.

Time will tell, time will tell

I would think that Al could have cut a better deal were he still with us. However, he isn't so we will never know.  Sad
