One day after being fired as the Raiders head coach, Hue Jackson is in full spin-control mode.
On Wednesday, Jackson took to the air to give his side about comments he made minutes after his team’s season-ending loss to the San Diego Chargers, in which he said he wanted more control over the team and blamed his players for their play against the Chargers.
It’s interesting to note that new general manager Reggie McKenzie said Tuesday at his introductory news conference that Jackson’s comments after the Chargers game had “nothing to do with” Jackson being fired. He said everyone makes comments that they wish they could take back.
New owner Mark Davis said he didn’t want to comment on Jackson’s postgame remarks Jan. 1. That was the only question that Davis refused to answer, by the way.
Here’s the transcript from Jackson’s interview, courtesy of NFL Network:

On if he was caught off guard by being relieved of his duties by new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie:
“I was a little surprised, but I do understand the nature of pro football. Sometimes things that look like they should don’t always end up like they should. So I understand. The Raiders did me a favor by giving me an opportunity, Al Davis did and I thank him for it. What a tremendous organization. My time there was awesome, the people at 1220 [Harbor Bay Parkway] who I worked with, they were tremendous – the staff was tremendous. I understand the nature of this business, but obviously I wish it would have went a different direction than it did.”

On how he found out that he would no longer be the head coach of the Raiders:
Al Davis] died; the person that told me was Mark – he came to my room and informed me of what had happened to Coach. I haven’t had an opportunity to speak to him. I did text him and tell him thank you for the opportunity and to thank him and his family, and I wish him well. But at the end of the day, like I said he’s the owner and he’s going to make the decision of which direction the franchise runs and I have to accept that.”

On the Raiders down the stretch of the regular season:
“We didn’t finish; it’s a term that I’ve always used. We didn’t play as well as we could have down the stretch, and again that’s what I was feeling after that San Diego game. We had so many opportunities, whether it was going to Miami, going to Green Bay, finishing at home against Detroit, went to Kansas City and then here comes San Diego. We weren’t able to get it done and I don’t have an excuse for that. At the end of the day, that’s my charge: to make sure that we do [get it done], and we didn’t. I know we played decently on offense, we didn’t play as well as we could or should on defense and the players know that. They own up to that and they respect that. But at the end of the day we just didn’t finish. When you don’t finish this is what happens: you end up 8-8 and you end up out of the playoffs.”

On if he wants to coach in 2012:
“There is no doubt I do. I love coaching, I love leading men and coaching guys. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen, but I’m going to take a couple of days to just relax and then let the chips fall where they may. There is a place out there for me someplace and I think I’ll find it.”

Funny he now refers to Al as Al Davis and not Coach Davis.  Jackson royally messed up, yes emotions got the better of him but hes a HC, meant to be able to keep his composure and act professional.  He might have been gone anyway due to a new GM but acting like a kid after that SD game didnt help one bit

I'm sure he does genuinely regret those comments now. It seemed obvious to me at the time as I listened to the presser, that Hue had sealed his exit from Oakland. McKenzie of course has stated the press conference had no influence on his decision to let Jackson go, but of course it did. More so for the wanting more power line than the emotional slagging off the players I feel, that probably would have been forgiven. Unprofessional for sure, but an understandable error under the circumstances. Wanting a piece of the GM's job? Definitely not.

Just to answer your point Supes - the new coach will be able to chose his own staff, without a doubt. That is the model that McKenzie believes in and will follow.

Yep i'm looking forward to seeing the new HC and staff.

Again a lot of people seem to be anti Winston Moss, BUT he has a great chance to do well, hire his own staff, injury free players next year.

I've read some people on the Raiders Homeport talking about 'tearing it up and starting again' but damn we were a few plays away from a playoff team, had major injuries.  We're not too far off.

If the new defensive guy just gets our ranking down from say 31 to 20th we'll be in the playoffs.  Palmer i thought had a great final few games, yeah he did throw the odd bad pass but i read a stat that if he played the whole 16 games he would have thrown for over 4,400 yards which is great, granted a lot of ints to go with his td's but he can work on those.  Palmer was on fire near the end of the year, a healthy side next year with McFadden (and hopefully Bush) and we'll do fine in a weak AFC West.

I cant believe our defense can be any worse than last year, with new coaches/systems and some new players i cant see the defense being worse.  Just a slight improvement will help us tremendously.

I'm not going to moan whoever McKenzie picks as i've got total faith in that man

It not in the writing that Palmer is going to be the starter; chances are that Campbell will be kept on....if the Raiders can afford to keep 2 good QB,s then go for it.

Not a chance of that happening. Yes we need a decent backup but Campbell is a FA and will try to get a big deal somewhere (might not happen) but he wont be coming back at all.

We cant afford to pay Campbell decent money which he'll want, better spend on resigning Branch or Bush.  No point spending a ton on our backup, up to Pryor to step it up and we'll pick a 10 year veteran or so in free agency.  Boller is good as gone

After going out there to get Pryor, he should realistically be the back-up for Palmer if he is going to be the QB of the future. A 3rd stringer should be relatively easy to pick up in FA.

Apparently he is basically at Tebow`s level for making passes. In our Offense that would be hopeless.

I dont think any of us thought he would be in Drew Brees class or that, he has amazing speed, could make plays on some trick players or 'perhaps' a switch to WR.  Looking forward to seeing him play next preseason though

Wouldn't be surprised to see him traded.
