Just thought I start a debate on who should be the next HC of the Raiders, as I think names like Cowher, Fisher and Gruden would come to Oakland now that Al Davis is out of the picture....

Winston Moss is being named as the next Raider HC...in rumor story,  but I do believe that a big name player might end up in Oakland

Jon Gruden would be a big seller if he was to come back to Oakland; Fans would go crazy if Chucky was to come back and finish the job.

Seeing as there will be limited direction from the GM position (playing-wise) we require X's and O's guys, people that are thinking and scheming, not shouting and hollering. Chucky is certainly that, but he also rather isolates himself and that won't really play into the hands of the 'team ethic' McKenzie's trying to foster 'off the pitch'.

I would not really consider him until he has had another couple of seasons as HC at Stanford. His successes have come as part of a good overall coaching staff with accomplished Head Coaches. I would prefer him to be a bit more seasoned before being a NFL HC.

Take your point but at this stage we need someone with lots of ideas in the organisation, I can deal with inexperience as long as they are f.ing smart. Brains wanted please.

I dont want a over hyped name like Gruden or Cowher. Yeah Cowhers great but has been out of coaching for a while, you would think Chucky would have tons of money but he'll still want silly money if he was HC.  I do love Gruden but it was 9 years ago since he was successful.  He didnt do a great job with Tampa after their SB win, not saying Gruden is rubbish but i think hes a 'bit' overhyped. 9 years out of the game, just a long time i think.

I would prefer to go with a new young coach and give them time to develop, similar to the Steelers who have had is it 4 coaches since they started. Sure McKenzies choice will get quite a few years to get it all sorted.  But i dont want a big name like Gruden/Cowher, look at the Packers and their coach, hardly a big name when he got the job.  Whoever gets the job needs time though

Psj...Steelers is not really a good example because Tomlin took over from Cowher and I think  most of Cowher staff is still in Pittsburgh working under  Tomlin; not like Tomlin came in and fired everyone and started fresh.

I dont really mind who the HC is, Reggie McKenzie is way more experienced than any armchair NFL fans, dont mean that as a dig at anyone here, just meant fans tend to overreact a lot.  There was a great twitter post last night from Mort talking about unpopular hires....

"Mike McCarthy, 31st offense with 4-12 49ers and those Packers made an unpopular hire - always a lesson on overreaction. "

I didnt realise that, so before he got the GB job he 'seemed' to do a dire job with the Niners offense, ranked 31st ? And now look, granted theyre just out of the playoffs but you know what i mean

If Winston Moss gets the job i wont be down about it, granted his defense werent ranked top 10 or that but i've just got faith in Reggie.  But i didnt know Mike McCarthys previous year was so bad, i'll have to start using that as an example more !  I always used to go on about Rich Gannon, when we signed him 99% of the raider fans i knew thought 'WHAT?Huh Noodle arm...' and we were all proved totally wrong

I am 'slightly' nervous in case Reggie is really trying a bit too hard to copy the Packers model which he seems to be doing.  Reminds me of the Chiefs in the early 90's getting hold of every Niner QB they could and then in later years trying to copy the Pats with their backup QB and Pat coaches.

So is every terrible coach and GM, the point is that at this stage there is NO reason to fall in love with McK, despite making a good move getting rid of Hue.

Dont see why not, hes highly regarded so from that i can 'fall in love' with McK.  Its not like we just hired anybody or hired Matt Millen, McKenzie was the best out there we could get. Yes we're 0-0 under McKenzie but so far i'm very happy with Mark Davis hiring McKenzie, thats the best move, i trust McKenzie in his choice of coaches

You serious ? Practically every main NFL writer has said its a great move, if ONLY the Raiders had said its a good move then i wouldnt take it so seriously and think McKenzie was brilliant or that. You know they sugar coat every loss/hire/player on the raiders.com website. But league wide McKenzie is highly thought of, have you not seriously read one positive article about the hire apart from raiders.com ?

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. The guy's unproven as a GM and doesn't have a significant knowledge regarding x's and o's. He is a facilitator who will live and die by his personnel's successes and failures. So until he's made his hires and dealt with free agency and the draft there is nothing to say about him... Except he was shuffled about as every role but GM for almost 20 years at the same organisation.

Always wondered why Reggie bounced around in GB so much, maybe its just the setup,  but it is strange that nobody has wanted him as a GM before.

Happy  he is onboard though, hope he goes for an offensive coach though, a defensive coach who isnt named Madden just isnt in our DNA
