Defensive coordinator Dom Capers is the latest Green Bay Packers coach rumored to be a possibility to be the next head coach of the Raiders.

Capers name was floated by the NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora, who reported Thursday the Raiders were interested in talking to him once the Packers season is concluded.

General manager Reggie McKenzie was reportedly set to interview Miami Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles on Friday, while other Green Bay assistants on the radar include assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach Winston Moss, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and quarterbacks coach Tom Clements.

McKenzie worked in the Green Bay organization for 18 years before being named the Raiders’ general manager.

Capers, 61, was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers from 1995-98 and the Houston Texans from 2002 through 2005 .Caper is 48-80 as a head coach, going 30-34 as the first coach of the expansion Panthers and leading the team to the NFC title game in its second year of existence. He was 18-46 in four years with the Houston Texans.

A respected defensive coordinator, Capers is a proponent of the 3-4 defense.

The Raiders at present are adhering to their policy of not confirming interviews or potential interviews.

Maybe as a DC, but not as HC

I wouldn't be totally against it, nor would I for Moss.

I think its excellent where looking at coaches from a successful franchise.

We've got a very young and exciting offense, so I would prefer an offensive head coach to get the best out of them.

But our defense is our main problem so we need a really strong DC aswell.

As far as I know is Saunders is still the OC in Oakland, no word has been given that his job is finished...so if Saunders is still around, then offense is going to be ok. So we really need defensive help and big time, so a defensive HC and new DC could be good in Oakland.

Well who knows about Saunders.  Lets just wait till the Packers are finished in the playoffs or win the SB, if we get Moss he might want to bring his own offensive/defensive co ordinator.  Theres no Al saying 'you have to take on this guy as one of your coaches', McKenzie will let the new coach have a total clean slate so i'm sure its up to them if they keep Saunders or not.

Giving the prospective HC the ability to choose his own people is a necessity if they expect to get harmony and achieve the results they want. However, the effect on the players of wholesale changes cannot be underestimated.

Absolutely right. But DCs like Bowles and Moss probably aren't qualified to say to the GM 'sack Saunders cos my mate xxxxxx is better.'
