Former Raiders linebacker Winston Moss said Monday that he is willing to listen to Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie if he is interested in him for the team’s coaching vacancy.
“If the Raiders were to call and ask, I’ll be ready to speak with them,” Moss told the Associated Press, one day after the Packers were eliminated from the NFC Playoffs by the New York Giants. “But nothing’s changed from last week. I feel good where I’m at. If there’s an opportunity that comes up in the future, we’ll probably cross that bridge at that time. But at this present time, right now, not a lot to talk about.”
Moss is the assistant head coach of the Packers. He also coaches the inside linebackers.
He spent four of his 11 NFL seasons as a player on the Raiders. He still has fond memories of those days.
“At the time, Al Davis was there, Art Shell was my coach,” Moss said. “And we had good times. I had some of my better times as a player in the National Football League with the Raiders. Whatever I’ve taken from the past with the Raiders, and Al Davis not being there anymore, you’ve got to say going forward that it’s going to be different.
“It’s going to be different from the standpoint of, Reggie wants to go in a new direction, so I’ll sit down and speak with Reggie to get his vision, what direction he wants the organization to go in. That’s going to play a lot in to it.”
As I reported earlier today, McKenzie has said in the past that he would hire Moss as his head coach if he got the opportunity.
That opportunity came when the Raiders hired McKenzie last Tuesday, with owner Mark Davis giving McKenzie sole authority to hire the head coach.
Moss said he already has a firm grasp of what he wants to do if he gets a head coaching job.
“There’s always opportunities to put yourself in the same position as a head coach would and see how you would do things or what you would change or what you would add or what you would take away,” Moss said. “So with that being said, I’ve done that, I feel good about the vision, the goals, the beliefs that can be instilled within an organization that would give me the opportunity to be a head coach.”
In other news, ESPN reports that fired Raiders coach Hue Jackson will interview with the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday about their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Jackson filled that role with the Raiders in 2010 before he was promoted to replace the fired Tom Cable as head coach in 2011. Jackson will interview with recently hired Rams coach Jeff Fisher.

Also interesting that we'll be talking to Pete Carmichael Jnr , the offensive co ordinator from the Saints.  Sounds like a good move

Not sure about him, only took over playcalling when Payton didnt.

A year ago exactly , I was talking about David Shaw as a potential HC.

A year later , he has only gone and led Stanford to a top 5  finish, helped mould/progress Andrew Luck to a surefire #1 overall pick and done nothing to harm his rep.

Plus he has been in the organisation before.

Lets grab him.

Yep i would be happy with someone like David Shaw.  I cant stand retread coaches so Morwhingweg (spelling !), Tice and Capers are a huge no to me, again i could be pleasantly surprised, i dont remember Patriot fans getting excited when the ex-Browns HC Bellichik joined them.

But i would like a rookie HC who can stay with us for a long time, surprised Shaw hasnt really been mentioned much in the press

Stanford's college signing deadline day comes up in a couple of weeks, I am sure his agent has sounded out some offers from the NFL , but will probably talk to him after signing day about NFL vacancies.

Must be hard this time of year for College recruits, they have to listen to coaches tell them that they are part of a 4 year plan etc, and then 2 weeks later they find out the coach is headed to the NFL !

Pretty sure Shaw is on the radar of a number of NFL teams.

Very impressed with the way he carries himself, here is his presser from when he was named as Harbaughs replacement as well as a far shorter interview.

Somebody with half a brain that doesn't communicate exclusively in cliches and double-speak. Interesting.

One Raiders reporter (Corkran) has said the Raiders have already chosen their HC and he'll be announced monday or tuesday?

Bit far fetched but he was basically implying McKenzie was going around interviewing people for co ordinator roles (Cant see many of them making a lateral move though ?).  If its all true then its exciting but still dont believe it.  Surely we'll start to get a HC in place for the senior bowl ?

Well they have to do Rooney rule where they got to interview black people for the job; so maybe they already have someone hired but they got to show that they have interviewed other for the job....if they have someone hired it might be from Green Bay

They did that instantly by interviewing Todd Bowles. Could be exciting knowing McKenzie was interviewing for possible co ordinators as we 'might' have a big name coach arriving !  Probably all a smokescreen and we'll hire Mike Tice and then we'll be moaning for the next 9 months though Wink

I got a feeling it might be someone from the Packers, maybe the OC as HC and Moss the DC coach.

I suspect that Cork may be right. The coach was hired - by verbal agreement at least, before McKenzie even held the press conference. It's just a mater of him signing on the dotted line. It's Winston Moss.

It has been reported that McKenzie made the public statement that he would hire Moss as a head coach, if he was ever in a position to make that call. I guess we will soon see if he is as good as his word to Moss.

There could of course be a surprise in store. I think we should all forget about the prospect of it being a 'big hire' (either a proven winner in the pros, or a hot college prospect). The Raiders simply do not have the money, I would have thought.

Finding this quite exciting, a new chapter etc. As i keep saying if the defense improves a fraction (Which SURELY it will as Chuck.B isnt here) then we'll win a handful more games for that alone.

I know a lot of people have been down on Moss but i'll wait and see how he does.  Not that it matters but when he was a player he was one of my favourites, tough LB and an old skool Raider attitude back then. Keep hearing good things as a coach, people go on about the Packers defense this year but the previous two years they were top 10.  This year the defense didnt seem as good but either way they were 14-0.  Bit like the Patriots defense often ranked near the bottom as so many teams play catch up

Moss might get the DC job, while Gruden get his old job back for some unfinished business...

Sounds great but i cant see that happening. Gruden 'promised' after the tuck game he would be back then for unfinished business but did he keep to his promise ?  Nah, forced Al to let him go. I do like Gruden but he'll want crazy money and his last few years in Tampa werent great.

Cant see Gruden coming at all
