Stanford co-defensive coordinator Jason Tarver is under consideration to be the defensive coordinator of the Raiders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tarver, 37, served one year as the co-defensive coordinator under David Shaw after working for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001 through 2010 as an offensive assistant, a running backs coach and an inside linebackers coach.

A product of Foothill High, Tarver went to college at Santa Clara but played at West Valley College in 1994 and 1995 when Santa Clara dropped football. He eventually graduated from Santa Clara.

It's been slow going for coach Dennis Allen in finding someone to run his defense. One of the candidates the Raiders reportedly interviewed, Greg Manusky, became defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts.

Among those who the Raiders reportedly sought permission to interview and were denied included Denver linebackers coach Richard Smith and New Orleans defensive assistant Bill Johnson.

The Raiders have been linked with Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. and 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell, but it is not know if either man interviewed or was given permission to interview by their employer.

Coaches under contract can be denied the opportunity to interview even if the job is a promotion from a position coach to a coordinator.

Hmmm !  Looks like everyones saying no to us interviewing their people !

Been reading up on him, sounded like he did alright in the pro's, Stanford defense wasnt the best but with Luck scoring a ton of points for them most teams must have been getting mop-up yardage late in games.

The way its going i'll be in line for the job in a few weeks as there wont be anyone left Wink

This would be a decent hire, a young hungry guy who has had experience under Fangio who had so much success with the SF D this year after coming over from Stanford.

If he's smart he'll realise there's an owner who doesn't know football, a GM whose never had so much responsibility and a Head Coach who is very inexperienced with a team full of perennial losers. It's not a 'strong environment' to enter into, as such it provides a possibly very quick route to becoming a Head Coach if he can make an even competent unit out of this D.
