John DeFilippo will rejoin offensive coodinator Greg Knapp and coach the Raiders’ quarterbacks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
DiFilippo has spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons coaching quarterbacks at San Jose State and was with the New York Jets in 2009. In 2007 and 2008, DeFilippo coached the Raiders quarterbacks, with Josh McCown, Daunte Culpepper, Andrew Walter and JaMarcus Russell all getting playing time.
Oakland went without a quarterbacks coach last season, with head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Al Saunders handling the position.
DeFilippo becomes the third consecutive coach taken from the college ranks, following defensive coordinator Josh Tarver (Stanford) and wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore (USC).
