Hamilton crashed into the back of the Ferrari at the end of the pit lane, ending his chance of retaining the championship lead. The day went to Robert Kubica whose spectacular crash last year at this track, didn't seem to have any lasting effect, as he easily won this race in a style befitting a more seasoned campaigner. he has been at the sharp end of all of the races this year and his efforts were rewarded with his first win at a track that could easily have seen the end of his career last year. In a very odd race, where the state of the track had a lot to do with the outcome, their was a welcome return to the podium for David Coulthard who managed third despite having problems with his brakes. Secong place went to Nick Heidfeld to make a BMW 1-2 in their first win as a team.
