More The Washington Redskins on Monday released safety Stuart Schweigert, one day removed from a sub-par performance in the Hall of Fame game.
Originally signed by the Redskins on June 2, Schweigert was late getting over in coverage as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Quinn Gray tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Onrea Jones on Sunday. The Redskins recorded a 30-16 victory over the Colts.
Schweigert has spent his entire four-year career with the Oakland Raiders, recording 315 tackles and four interceptions.
The 26-year-old's best season came in 2006, when he had 107 tackles in 16 games. The Michigan native appeared in 15 games last season with Oakland, recording 69 tackles and two interceptions.
A third-round draft selection in 2007, the 6-2 Schweigert was expected to battle for a starting job opposite LaRon Landry with the Redskins.

I suppose that during the training camp run throughs, they don't tackle the way they do in a proper game. This may have disguised the fact that he can't tackle and to some extent the inability to cover.

Its only when your in pads and can hit properly do you find out whether they can tackle or play. He'll get another gig soon enough though it will be as back up.

He certainly won't command anywhere near the attention or money that he did when going to the 'Skins.

Haven't seen that yet. They are in for a great deal of disappointment.

Shame about Schweigert, had high hopes for him. In college he was an interception machine but didnt do much for us until his final season with an int or two. Just reminded me of Anthony Dorsett, just nervous everytime Stu had to make an open field tackle.
