They obviously don't make Quarterbacks the way they used to. This was only week 6 of the regular season and several starters are out through injury and some very unfamiliar names are taking the reins. There are some retreads who you wonder how on earth did they get signed. (I won't mention the name Collins) It gets to be something when a fortysomething has to take the start after only one week with the team because of a shortage at QB and don't it beat all when they actually win. Mind you Vinny Testaverde will probably still be trying to play into his fifties.  Are all these injuries testament to the growing ferocity of  modern defensive schemes and players, or is it the increasing failure of the offensive lines to give protection, or simply a matter that your average starting quarterback doesn't stand up well to physical abuse.

Some teams like to stockpile QB's  Grin to stop everyone else having a shot. The Raiders have 2 possibly 3 that could start elsewhere, the Bears have 2 - though some would say that Orton is a better bet than the others.

I guess football has always been that way - and its not just QB's that get hurt and a backup has to takeover.

When the Texans lost Ahamn Green they had to turn to Ron Dayne.....

The speed of the NFL is something different from the college game and some cant live with the adjustment. Most of the QB's physically have the talent to manage most NFL offences' but what separates the good from the ordinary is swiftness in making decisions and adjustments. These are the ones that never seem to get hurt, who get rid of the ball just that split second quicker.
Brady and Manning are the best examples of that.

There have been a lot of injuries in all areas of the teams so far this season and I get the feeling that there may be more of them than in previous years. However, that may be just my perception of it. But I pretty sure that the QB's this season are going down like 9-pins and this is not something that has struck me from previous seasons.

There seems to be - I think there were 9 that were different from the opening weekend - but I'm not sure if thats all to do with injury. There may be some performance issues there as well.

Whatever the reasons, there are a lot of back-ups in at the moment.

We have 3 backups and are awaiting the starter learning the playbook.

They are still falling like nine pins. You expect at this stage of the season for more injuries to be incurred but the number of QBs being injured still seems very high.
